Fremington Manor was given by ‘William the Conqueror’ to his Lieutenant General at the Battle of Hastings.. W Brendell Yeo held the Manor lease in 1870. He was the owner of the greater part of the Parish of Fremington, which was a large parish of over 6,800 acres. Most of the farmers were his tenants. After use as an Hotel, the House and its adjoining land in 1942, became 348 US GENERAL HOSPITAL, remaining as such until the departure of the Americans. In March 1946 at the end of the second world war, The military moved in and it was known as the ‘school of amphibious warfare’. The Military maintained the Manor as an Officers’ Mess until it was considered to be no longer a requirement for a modern Army. This was subsequently divided from the remaining Barracks which still act as a training Camp. The Manor was sold to the present owners in 1983.
